Medical Problems in Dentistry

Medical Problems in Dentistry has become a well-respected and established Wright dental title. Extensively reworked for this new edition, the book retains its original aim of discussing in as much detail as possible systemic diseases that can complicate dental treatment or that have manifestations in the mouth. Carefully structured to provide background information on these diseases and their management, it also outlines their impact on dentistry and indicates how these problems should be dealt with.

New colour plates have been included, giving additional clarity to the clinical illustrations. In second colour throughout, this edition of the book is in a totally new format, with a hardback cover for durability. The authors' thoughtful use of tables makes the information easy to access and retain.

From The Critics
    Aladean Attar
This book covers general medical and surgical conditions relevant to oral health care. This is the fourth edition, the first was published in 1982. The purpose is to provide a basis of understanding about a variety of medical conditions relevant to oral health care. The text is just one of the many ways to access knowledge for continuing education purposes. It is not intended to be a comprehensive guide to oral medicine; it is a reference source for the many medical conditions of the dental patient. The authors state this is a text for the dental professional. However, it could also be an excellent source of reference for the resident or student. The authors have numerous publications on oral pathology and oral medicine. The book covers various topics such as bleeding disorders, cardiac disease, diabetes, and immunosuppressive treatment, as well as their management. The topics encompass day-to-day concerns for the dental practitioner. Tables are clear and concise, and easy to understand. This fourth edition has a section of colored photographs, which can aid in understanding some aspects of a specific malady. This is an excellent reference for the many conditions of the dental patient. It can be useful as a guide for the practitioner, or a primary text for students. Due to the complex and changing nature of medicine, this fourth edition was warranted.
