Rembrandt
Whitening Strips - Do they really work?
Crest was the first to
introduce the concept of a sticky strip impregnated with a peroxide
whitening agent, and now Oral-B is in this market. They also have a strip
that can be applied to your teeth to whiten them.
While most over-the-counter whiteners don't
work, the Oral-B Rembrandt Whitening Strip appears to whiten the teeth
somewhat. The dark color of your teeth comes from inside the tooth, usually
in the dentin. In order to whiten your teeth, therefore, you need a
whitening agent that will penetrate the tooth. A toothpaste isn't on your
teeth long enough to whiten them. However, Oral-B Rembrandt Whitening Strips
are placed on your teeth for thirty minutes at a time. This is enough time
for their peroxide to penetrate and change the color of your teeth.
The chemical in Oral-B Rembrandt Whitening
Strips is 8% carbamide peroxide. When you have professional
dentist-supervised teeth whitening, the dentist will use 10% to 30%
carbamide peroxide, which will whiten more powerfully and more quickly than
the whitening strips can. However, the whitening strips will whiten your
teeth somewhat. A
problem with the whitening strips is that they generally cover only the
front six teeth. Most people show eight or even ten teeth when they smile,
and it could look funny if the front six teeth are dramatically whiter than
your other teeth. But for moderate amounts of whitening, these whitening
strips work all right. |
