How do Invisalign invisible braces work?
Are you interested in the new invisible braces? The Invisalign® system
was developed in
the late 90’s, and since then there are some other systems that use the same
approach. With Invisalign®, a sophisticated computer creates a series of clear plastic “aligners” to straighten
your teeth, rather than
wire-and-bracket braces. Do
these invisible braces work? Yes, they work very well. Besides being practically
invisible, they have the advantage that they move teeth more efficiently,
because of their computer-designed precision. This cuts the
average treatment time, when you're using the Invisalign®, to twelve months
instead of the typical twenty-four to thirty months with conventional braces.
They're also more comfortable, because there are no metal brackets to
irritate your cheeks or tongue.
At this time, however, Invisalign® invisible braces are not a complete replacement for conventional
braces. There are certain situations in which they don't work too well. For
example, they can't move teeth that aren’t fully erupted, so they don't work
well for patients around age 14 and younger. They're also not
good for severe crowding. And there are other situations where the best way to
move your teeth would be with conventional braces. But, because they are invisible,
fast, and comfortable, patients love them. Invisalign® invisible braces are particularly
popular with adults and older teenagers.
