Textbook and Colour Atlas of Traumatic Injuries to the Teeth by J O Andreasen & F M Andreasen
ISBN 8716106377
Buy from amazon.com

Synopsis
The third edition of this classic text encompasses the full scope of acute dental trauma, including all aspects of surgical, endodontic, orthodontic, pedodontic and prosthodontic therapy after injury. The aim of this new edition has been to update trauma therapy in light of the diagnostic and therapeutic advances made since the second edition was published in 1981. New chapters have been added on wound healing and the long-term prognosis of various trauma entities, analyzed in cooperation with the Statistical Research Unit of the University of Copenhagen. There are also new procedures for the treatment of anterior tooth loss following trauma, including auto-transplantation of teeth, resin-retained bridges, the use of implants, and reconstruction of lost tissue in the anterior region. All chapters have been thoroughly revised and approximately 50% of the text and illustrations have been updated or augmented. To make the work as a whole more assimilable, a new layout has been devised that complements the style of Andreasen's synoptic colour atlas, "Essentials of Traumatic Injuries to the Teeth", which was published in 1990. The framework has been extended - from 12 chapters by 5 authors to 23 chapters by 12 - and the new edition includes some 400 illustrations. The primary target of this work are dental practitioners whose aim it is to provide the entire range of trauma treatment, from acute intervention to adequate post-trauma observation.

Synopsis
Increased knowledge of treatment outcomes, combined with better techniques and materials, has led to improved management and more predictable results for victims of dental trauma. To save teeth and restore function and esthetics, the clinical approach to dental trauma requires accurate diagnosis of the severity and extent of injury, treatment of the acute aspect of the injury, and long-term follow-up and treatment of injury sequelae. Each chapter in this book is arranged by: description, examination and diagnosis: key points; treatment plan; and treatment procedures. Described is the biologic basis of healing and the benefits of allowing healing to be used in the management of traumatic dental injuries. Also described are the roles orthodontic and restorative modalities play in the management of dental trauma. More than 50 cases and 480 images - intraoral, radiographic, and schematic - elucidate the most effective approaches to all forms of dental trauma.
