Reviewer: Rodrigue G. Barakat, DMD (Loyola University Medical Center)
Description: This is a collection of color illustrations of different
techniques used in implant dentistry. Conventional and new techniques used
in implant surgery are demonstrated.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide clinicians with a concise
reference for the implant surgery techniques used on a daily basis by the
author. The material is common practice and can be found in other books.
However, the author's objectives are covered sufficiently.
Audience: This book is written for dentists and specialists looking
for a practical surgical guide for placing dental implants. It is written by
a highly competent author.
Features: The chapters cover the surgical details for the placement
of implants in the different anatomical areas of the mouth. Much emphasis is
placed on bone grafting and ridge reconstruction, including the soft tissue
aspect. An interesting but short chapter on zygomatic implants is presented.
The book illustrates many clinical cases on color slides, and contains
diagrams to illustrate certain methods used by the author.
Assessment: This is a short reference for clinical surgical
implantology. It is composed of many clinical cases, some of which are well
documented from preoperative evaluation to postoperative, and some of which
are incomplete, leaving readers with vague ideas and multiple questions. The
quality of some of the pictures could be better, although the size and print
quality of the pictures are excellent. Finally, this book is a fairly good
illustration of the multiple ways available for restoring the dental arches.
